Guten T ag from Hamburg!Friday, January 30th, 2004Der König Der Löwen Well everybody, rehearsals are in full swing and I am working with a phonetics teacher to learn how to speak and sing the show in German. There is also a great musical director working with me to teach me the words rooted in African languages. I have yet to begin choreography, but I have taken a class given by one of the talented dancers in the cast named Sandee.
I must say that it is a charming experience to visit this theatre. In order to come here, every day I must take a short ride in a ferry boat across the Elbe river, and then back across to go home at night. There is not really much more to do on this side of the water unless you work in one of the industrial houses that surround the theatre. Luckily there is a canteen where food is served all day.
Wow, this is really a trip, y'all. I am thrilled and exhausted. I must go now and study the material for my part. I, and the other 6 new cast members will debut on September 25th. I guess that is only about 3 weeks away so in order to learn this, I must stay focused. I will put up photos as soon as I can.
The best to you all. As I listen to the endless thunder outside, I am sure you are much warmer than I am. :) Peace.
Yay!! So here I am, in Hamburg, Germany. And I'm having a blast. There is much to learn but I am so incredibly stoked to be working with this cast. There are people from all over the world here!! Brazil, Australia, South Africa, France, Germany, and of course the United States. Everyone is quite kind and in good spirits. The show is seen by 2000 people every day and they enjoy it well.
The city of Hamburg is good. I am staying in a city called St. Pauli and although there is a 'red light district', it is safe and mostly there are no women in windows... just shows of an adult nature and many sex shops. Honestly, it is very touristy.
The natives here are nice. I am learning German and probably some other languages as well!! Time will tell. Ok, I will do my best to update the news section tomorrow with more info. I have taken photos but have not yet learned how to get my own pc online so I can not yet put them up. Soon. Promise. Take Care!!
